Weekly Worship Devotional

(New Year's Eve, post-Sunday gathering)

Hi everyone, and happy New Year's! This week there are two devotionals—one for last week which I missed, and one for this week which I will post later. This post is basically just a recap of the songs we sang last Sunday.

These songs are about holding onto the hope we have in Jesus in the midst of dark and difficult times. When we feel sorrow and pain, we can always remember that God is still good, still faithful, still true, and He always will be. Because of His love and faithfulness, we can trust Him to bring us through our trials and tribulations to victory, because that's what He promises to those who believe in Him.

Here are the songs we sang:

  1) Lord From Sorrows Deep I Call by Matt Boswell

This is a modern hymn based on Psalm 42. These profound lyrics are greatly comforting in times of hardship, especially when struggling with grief, doubt, or conflicting desires.

  2) God Is Good by Dustin Kensrue

This song takes the well-known saying, "God is good, all of the time; all of the time, God is good," and applies it directly to hard times—which are usually when we need to hear it the most. Even when it is hard to believe, His truth remains, and holding onto that truth can bring us comfort and get us through the storm.

  3) See A Victory by Elevation Worship

This is a song of faith, proclaiming the truth of who God is in the face of opposition, believing that we will see victory because the battle belongs to the Lord. The victory does not depend on our strength or ability, but on His.

  4) For All That You Have Done (As Family We'll Go) by Rend Collective

Written to the familiar New Year's tune of Auld Lang Syne, this Rend Collective song invites us to raise a song of praise to God for all that He has done throughout the years as we look forward to all that He will do in the years to come. As we head into the future—unknown to us, but known to God—we walk with each other in unity, praising and trusting God.

Scriptures:

  • Genesis 50:20

  • 1 Samuel 17 (esp. v. 47)

  • 2 Chronicles 20:1-29 (esp. v. 15)

  • Psalm 42, 43, 118, & 145
