Worship Devotional for 10/11/20
Last week we sang about how God is both good and sovereign over all things. This is important to remember when praying for revival, because our sovereign God is the only One who has the power to truly revive us and bring us back to life in Him, and He is not only willing, but delights to do so because He is good. The revival we need starts right here in our own hearts. It begins with repentance and a recognition of our need for saving. When we were lost in the darkness of our sin and unbelief, we needed to be saved and rescued and delivered. Now in Christ, because of what He has done for us, we are saved. There are still deceptions and temptations in our earthly lives, however, that we need to be saved from. It is to the glory of God's grace though that we can say truthfully that we are! In all things, from before we were born again and adopted into the family of God to now and whatever struggles the future may hold, God is our salvation. He is our Rescuer. He delivers, redeems, and saves us with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. This week is all about the great and wondrous salvation of our God.
Here are the songs:
1) The Lord Is My Salvation by Keith & Kristyn Getty
No matter what we face, God is able to deliver us. When we had no hope, He saved us by His grace! There is no one else who is able to do this. There is no other who has the authority, power, wisdom, grace, and love to save guilty sinners and give them eternal life. There is no one like our God. Let us give Him glory as we ponder the wonderful truth of who He is — that He Himself is our salvation.
2) You Alone Can Rescue by Matt Redman
We often misplace our trust and look to people or ideas or worldly systems and all our human works to rescue us in times of need. The problem is that every single one of us is guilty of sin against God. None of us can save ourselves, let alone each other. Jesus Christ is the only hope. Only God can save us and deliver us from eternal damnation in hell. Only God is able to deliver us from the evil around us and from the sin within us. Our shame ran deeper than the sea, but the grace of God runs deeper. Our hearts wandered far away, but His love went further to find us. Let us lift up our eyes to the One who rescues and gives life.
3) Our God Saves by Paul Baloche
This song is a declaration of praise to our God. He is the one true and living God — there is no other. Our God saves. Our God heals and delivers and redeems. Hope that lasts forever and does not disappoint can only be found in His name. Let us stand together and sing with joy as we make this declaration of praise.
4) Rescuer (Good News) by Rend Collective
The news of the world, if you haven't noticed, is grim, depressing, troubling, and even downright appalling. It is very clear, especially in times such as these in which we are living right now, that the world does not satisfy, but only disappoints and falls apart into nothingness. But we have good news to share with this hurting, broken, and dying world! We have the only true and eternally good news! That is the gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord, who suffered died in our place that we might be set free from our sins! He rose again from the grave so that we can live forever with Him in the glory and goodness of a righteous and holy God! And it is all by His grace. He is our Rescuer.
