Worship Devotional for 7/19/20

In times of uncertainty and struggle and weariness, we are the ones who have hope. We are the ones who can still rejoice and who still have confidence and who can still find rest and peace. Whether it's the chaos and confusion of all that's going on in the world at large, or your own personal struggles and battles, you can find the rest and strength you need in Christ. Even if there's storms raging all around us, we can say with confidence that our hearts have peace — just like when Jesus was sleeping on the boat in Matthew 8:24 even while the storms raged around Him and His disciples. The one true and living God is the One in whom we trust and believe. He is always with us — just as He promised — because He lives in us by His Holy Spirit! And He is greater than the spirit that is in the world. He is greater and stronger than anything that we face or that would dare to stand against the children of God.

Here are the songs:

  1) Psalm 46 (Lord Of Hosts) by Shane & Shane

Psalm 46:1-3:

"God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with its turmoil."

God is still on the throne. He is still in control. And we are His. Let us not be afraid, but trust in Him, the Lord of Hosts who is mighty and strong to save and deliver those He loves.

  2) Same Power by Jeremy Camp

Jeremy Camp behind the song here.

We should walk in confidence and joy even during the hardest of times. Why? Because we have a hope, peace, power, faith, and victory that can never be taken away. This is because it depends on the God who reigns above all things, and not on us. And the Spirit of God, who is greater than everything, is living inside of each one of us who are believers in the name of Jesus Christ, God's Son. So we have the answer to the needs of the world right now. And we have access to the strength we need to be bold and confident during trying times. So then, let us hold fast to our God and walk by His Spirit.

2 Timothy 1:7:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment."

  3) Greater Is He by Blanca

When we feel overwhelmed, we cry out to our God, for He hears us and will answer when the time is right. I confess that I am weak. But God is strong and mighty, and He is with me. Therefore I can say confidently in agreement with this song — no matter what I may be going through right now — that "My heart is at peace, for greater is He."

1 John 4:4:

"You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

  4) Our God by Chris Tomlin

w/tag: "Awesome God" by Rich Mullins

This is the cry of our hearts, and something we must always remember: in the midst of these struggles and trials of this life, we need to turn our eyes to Jesus. Don't focus on the circumstances or on the battle itself. Focus instead on the Lord and stand in awe of His greatness. Our God is an awesome God! All of His works are awe-inspiring and amazing and wonderful and good. Nothing can stand against us, because God Himself is for us! He great and mighty, working miracles and wonders that bring light, truth, life, and healing. He is worthy of our praise. Let us rejoice and find comfort in His power and glory!
