Weekly Worship Devotional

Hello everyone. This week's songs are about trusting in the Lord no matter what we face. When trials come, we learn to wait on the Lord for deliverance, to keep our focus on knowing Him, to look to Him above the worries and cares of this life, and to rest in His everlasting faithfulness.

Here are the songs:

  1) While I Wait by Lincoln Brewster

As believers living in this world, there are things about God and His word that we know to be true, but we still struggle at times with various trials, discouragement, weakness, and failure. When we struggle to understand the pain or weakness we feel, we must learn to wait on the Lord and trust in His promises. This song is about trusting in the One who is faithful in times that require waiting on Him.

  2) I Want To Know You by CityAlight

This song is based on the hymn, "In Jesus" by James Proctor. It is a reminder that our deepest and truest needs can only be met in Jesus. Only He can truly satisfy. With the chorus of this song, we can express the desire and purpose of every believer: to know God. When the things of this world seem overwhelming, we need to remember that none of it can satisfy. What we really need is the Lord, and to know Him more.

  3) I Will Look Up by Elevation Worship

This song is about trading the futility of worldly pursuits for the peace and strength that comes from trusting in the Lord. When things are overwhelming and stressful, we can sing to God with confidence, "I will look up, for there is none above You."

  4) Always Faithful by Ashes Remain

Finally, we conclude the set with a new song that declares—in the midst of darkness, trials, confusion, and struggles—that God is always faithful. He will only ever be faithful, which means our hope in Him is guaranteed, He will fulfill His purposes, and His word will only ever be true.

These songs are deep in their message and meaning. There are many places in Scripture that apply to what we are singing about. Here are a lot of them, but there are also plenty more. I encourage you to take the time to read as many of these passages as you can and reflect on their meaning.

Note: Please always feel free to comment any thoughts or Scriptures that I may have missed that are on your heart to share that apply to these songs and the topics we are thinking about. That way we can learn more from each other!

Here are some Scriptures:

  • Psalms 16, 25, 28, 32, 62, 63, 91, 92, 116, & 121

  • Ecclesiastes

  • Isaiah 26:3-4 & 40 (esp. vv. 28-31)

  • Matthew 6:19-34, 10:37-39, 11:25-30, & 16:24-27

  • Luke 9:23-26, 12:13-48

  • John 17:3

  • Romans 1:16-17

  • 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:15 (esp. 5:7)

  • Philippians 3:7-21 & 4:4-9

  • 1 Thessalonians 23-24

  • Hebrews 10:19-25 & 10:35-39

  • 1 Peter 5:6-7

Whatever stuff you may be going through, remember that God is always faithful and true. We can trust in Him, and He will bring us through to the end. Keep looking to Him in faith as you wait for the fulfillment of His wonderful promises. See you Sunday!
